THE MEDTECH DESIGN CHALLENGE
OBJECTIVE OF THE COMPETITION
The Gogoa Prize's mission is to connect students with contemporary challenges in biomedical product development, focusing on improving quality of life. In this context, Gogoa seeks to support young engineers, offering them a platform to showcase and disseminate their innovative projects in the biomedical field. The initiative aims to inspire practical solutions that address real needs and contribute to progress in the biomedical industry.
THE CHALLENGE - FIRST EDITION: 2024
CRITERIOS DE EVALUACIÓN Y PONDERACIÓN
1. Funcionalidad (20%)

Evaluación de la efectividad en mejorar las capacidades motoras de personas mayores.

Verificación de la adaptabilidad a diversas situaciones y necesidades.

Consideración de la seguridad de uso.
2. Innovación (20%)
-
Evaluación de características únicas y soluciones creativas.
-
Relevancia e impacto de las innovaciones en el diseño del exoesqueleto.

Originalidad en abordar desafíos específicos de las personas mayores.
3. Integración Ergonómica y Facilidad de Colocación y Uso (20%)

Evaluación de la comodidad y adaptabilidad al cuerpo del usuario.

Adaptación a ambos géneros (masculino / femenino).
-
Facilidad y rapidez de colocación y ajuste.
-
Experiencia de uso intuitiva y accesibilidad para personas mayores.
4. Viabilidad de Producción y Costes de Fabricación (20%)
-
Análisis de la factibilidad de producción a distintas escalas (10 / 100 / 10.000 unidades).

Escandallo y escalado de costes directos y asociados para distintos tamaños de serie de producción (10 / 100 / 10.000 unidades).

Análisis del impacto del coste en la adopción de la solución.
5. Originalidad, Diseño Industrial y Estética del Producto (10%)

Evaluación de la singularidad y atractivo visual del diseño.

Coherencia con principios de diseño industrial y estética contemporánea.
-
Impacto estético en la aceptación y adopción por parte de los usuarios.
6. Ciclo de Vida y Sostenibilidad (10%)
-
Evaluación del impacto ambiental a lo largo del ciclo de vida del producto.

Consideración de materiales sostenibles y procesos de fabricación eco-amigables.
-
Análisis de la durabilidad y posibilidades de reciclaje o reutilización.
The following areas will be assessed in the projects (it is not mandatory that the product includes all of these elements):
Mechanical design / ergonomics
Application of smart materials
Electronic design
Embedded systems programming
Control algorithms
Internet of things
Web or mobile applications for system registration/management.
PRIZE
A prize of €1,000 plus an award will be given to the best "exoskeleton project to enhance the human capabilities of older adults." The winning projects will be featured on Gogoa's communication channels to raise awareness of the award recipients.

The application period will begin on February 1, 2024 and will end on May 30, 2024 at 23:59 h.
This competition is open exclusively to students in Spain . Students from any Engineering and Technology discipline who are pursuing their Bachelor's, Master's, or Postgraduate studies during the 2023-2024 academic year are eligible to participate, either individually or in teams of up to 4 people .
The jury's decision will be made public through a formal email sent to all participants before June 30, 2024. The jury may, at its discretion, select a winner or declare the prize void. The jury also reserves the right to award honorable mentions to outstanding projects.
