Delve into his rehabilitation story
Every morning for three years, Miren rode her bicycle from home to work. However, on one fateful day, her life took a dramatic turn. She was hit by a car, which threw her violently onto the asphalt, leaving her a quadriplegic with a C5 cervical spine injury. Two and a half years have passed since that traumatic event that transformed the life of Miren, a 32-year-old teacher, depriving her of the ability to move either her arms or legs. This relegated her to a life confined to bed with no hope of recovery.
A few months ago, with the support of her family, Miren decided to search for a solution to improve her quality of life and regain mobility in her limbs. It was then that, accompanied by her partner, she went to Movex Clinics Bilbao.
The clinic's team of specialists, supported by cutting-edge exoskeleton technology, carried out a thorough evaluation to design a personalized treatment plan. Their initial focus was on strengthening Miren's trunk stability, enabling her to sit up. Subsequently, they shifted their efforts to restoring mobility in her upper extremities, utilizing Hand of Hope, a robotic exoskeleton specifically designed for arm and hand rehabilitation.
Thanks to the commitment and dedication of the Movex Clinics team, Miren has regained much of the mobility in her hands and arms, allowing her to perform daily activities such as eating independently. This significant progress in her therapy elicited an emotional reaction from Miren, who couldn't hold back her tears when she was able to pick up a comb and raise her arm above her shoulder to comb her hair. This milestone represented a crucial step in her recovery.
After several weeks, the team of neuro-physiotherapists finally began working on Miren's balance and gait. After much effort and dedication, Miren was able to stand and walk with assistance, and even today she can take a few steps independently with a walker.
Miren's story is a clear example of how technology and medical care can combine to achieve great advances in the recovery of patients with serious injuries. At Movex Clinics, they are proud to work to help people regain their independence and improve their quality of life. Miren's case is yet another example of their commitment.
