HISTORY AND EVOLUTION

Gogoa is committed to an inclusive future by designing high-tech robotic and industrial products. This is the work we are doing to achieve it, and what we are learning along the way.

THE ROAD TO THE REVOLUTION – FIRST STEPS

In 2012, our mission was to identify new business opportunities for the economic reactivation of the Urola Garaia region in Gipuzkoa. We found ourselves in the most ageing region in Spain, with a large number of homes for the elderly, home care services and a regional hospital in Zumarraga. We identified that all the technical aids used in the public health service were foreign and saw the opportunity to develop products locally.
After an exhaustive analysis, we found emerging te
chnologies aimed at the maintenance and rehabilitation of motor skills and, within these, exoskeletons appeared, a clear commitment to the future.

During several exploratory trips to Japan and the USA, we had the opportunity to visit several universities (University of Tsukuba and MIT), companies dedicated to the manufacture of exoskeletons, hospitals and rehabilitation centres. But it was at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Centre, in Charlestown (just outside Boston), where, as we were walking down one of the corridors, Professor Bonato, an Italian who ran the rehabilitation unit, said to us: "look at that one is Spanish", pointing to an exoskeleton resting on a chair.

To our amazement, we had gone all the way to Massachusetts to find an exoskeleton developed by the CSIC (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, a Spanish state agency attached to the Ministry of Science and Innovation) at the Cajal Institute.
As soon as we returned home, we called the CSIC to see if the technology they had developed could be licensed. The response was positive and within 3 months we closed a deal that led us to set up Gogoa Mobility Robots on 28 August 2015.

IT WAS THE BEGINNING OF THE REVOLUTION.

DESIGNING THE FUTURE

The-Krebs-Cycle-of-Creativity-.png

The Krebs Cycle of Creativity by Neri Oxman

Ms. Oxman explains that we tend to think of Art as for expression, Science for exploration, Engineering for invention, and Design for communication. In the Krebs Cycle of Creativity, he asks us to think that Science turns information into knowledge; Engineering converts knowledge into utility; Design converts utility into cultural behavior and context; and Art takes that context and questions our perception of the world.

The culminating moment is where Art meets Science, and changes in our perceptions affect the way data is captured.

At Gogoa, we use this creative vision together with the Design Thinking methodology in every step we take. We seek a balance between the theory of science and the real connection of the human being with the environment that surrounds him.

Our philosophy is that of well-being. We believe in improving the quality of life and in a better future.
